Diego y su llegada a Bilbao para un ESC de 1 año

¡Hola! Soy Diego, un chico de 28 años de Ferrara, Italia. Actualmente me encuentro en Bilbao, hermosa ciudad del País Vasco en que estoy haciendo mi Cuerpo Europeo de Solidaridad. Llevo tres semanas aquí y realmente estoy muy a gusto. La ciudad es preciosa, hay muchas cosas que hacer y la gente es muy amable.

Mi tarea principal aquí es trabajar en un gaztegune al que acuden niños y adolescentes por la tarde, después del colegio. Allí ellos están acompañados por profesionales que los acompañan en actividades lúdicas y educativas. Yo me ocupo de estar con ellos y guiarlos en sus interacciones sociales. Jugamos a juegos de mesa y al futbolín, pero también organizamos talleres de cocina, de teatro y excursiones. El ambiente de trabajo es muy positivo, los compañeros siempre están dispuestos a ayudarme si tengo cualquier tipo de duda y trabajar con los jóvenes es muy divertido y enriquecedor 😊

En Italia había empezado a trabajar en colegios haciendo sustituciones y la verdad es que siempre me ha gustado estar en contacto con los adolescentes, de hecho mi objetivo es llegar a ser profesor. He decidido participar en el Cuerpo Europeo de Solidaridad porque todavía tenía ganas de viajar, conocer el mundo y ver un contexto distinto que me permitiera mejorar en mi trabajo.

Cada día que pasa pienso que esta ha sido la mejor decisión que podía tomar en este momento. Al inicio, antes de aplicar para este tipo de oportunidades, sueles tener dudas e incluso un poco de miedo, pero es perfectamente normal. Todos tenemos una zona de confort, un lugar en que nos sentimos protegidos por nuestros familiares y amigos. Sin embargo, si consigues superar ese miedo y ponerte en juego de verdad, puedes vivir experiencias maravillosas.

Hablando en general sobre mi proyecto, puedo decir que desde el principio nuestra organización de acogida nos ha ayudado mucho contestando a todas nuestras dudas. Las sensaciones son muy positivas y creo que las cosas irán mejorando cada vez más. La verdad es que por ahora estoy muy feliz y lo estoy aún más cuando pienso que tengo un año por delante aquí en Bilbao. Un año en el que podré conocer mucha gente nueva y enriquecer mi vida.

Chiara arrival as ESC volunteer in Bilbao

Hello there!

My name is Chiara, and three weeks ago I’ve started one of the best experiences of my life.

I am currently a psychology student in Italy but since I have just my thesis left, I thought that the best way to open my mind to the world was to actually live in another culture and immersing myself in it. That’s why I chose this project, because it gives me the chance to work directly with the locals and live their typical day.

Moreover, it helps me helping others which is something that as a future psychologist I do really cherish. Thanks to this project, I can work with children and adolescents in a non-formal setting, helping them with their homework, talking with them or simply spending their leisure time together.

In this small amount of time I have learnt so much from them, and this experience is helping me shaping my future, understanding what I want to do and who I want to become.

Furthermore, Bilbao is a wonderful city, surrounded by nature and full of activities and cultural events. Everywhere you look you will find people enjoying the possibilities that this city offers, such as museums, music festivals, a lot of delicious bakeries and so much more.

It’s difficult to put into words how much I am glad to be here, but I can say that I am more than happy to have this opportunity and to experience it with my amazing flatmates Teresa and Diego.

Teresa comienza su Service Civique en Bilbao

I’m Teresa, I arrived less than two weeks ago to start my service civique in Bilbao, so I thought about introducing myself! I’m 25 years old and I come from France (although I’m Portuguese). Although, I have just been here for a few days, I have loved every minute of it. It’s the perfect combination: the work, the people and the city.

Bilbao is a charming and beautiful city, full of life. You find young people everywhere and there are loads of places to spend your free time. But be prepared, the Basque rain can be tough! I have been to Spain before, but never to the Basque country that is so unique and full of history. I’ve been enjoying getting to know this culture, eat delicious pintxos and learn the basics in Euskera. Moreover, having a big football team in the city, and me as a big football fan, I can say I’m living my best life.

I also get to spend this experience with two other volunteers, Chiara and Diego, from Italy. When you are away from home, having friends is crucial. Here, at Kiribil they put the 3 of us living together, so you are never alone and have someone that is there for you, going through the same struggles like you.

In the next few months, I will be volunteering at Kiribil and Harribide Fundazioa. My work involves supporting migrant people. For now, I have been doing in-depth training that goes from Spanish law to evaluation methods. This is been very valuable in equipping me with all the skills and knowledge needed for my role. Furthermore, I couldn’t ask for better colleagues. They are patient when I ask loads of questions, speak my terrible Castellano (it is more like portunhol- mixing Portuguese and Castellano) and support my ideas.

I’m super excited to be here and can’t wait to see what the next months have in store for me!

Esti comienza su voluntariado europeo en Viena

Hola, soy Esti una joven de 22 años de Vitoria-Gasteiz y este septiembre me voy un año a Viena
(Austria) a un programa de voluntariado del European Solidarity Corps.
Decidí participar en este programa porque me parece una gran oportunidad para visitar y conocer otro país y cultura.

Opino que es una experiencia que te abre a un mundo que no conocías antes y una manera increíble de crecer personalmente. Al mismo tiempo, te da la oportunidad de poder trabajar en un proyecto de tu gusto e interés profesional.

Durante este año estaré colaborando en una casa de cultura en Viena donde organizan diferentes talleres y eventos para impulsar el arte y la cultura. Estoy deseando poner mi creatividad en juego y que mis ideas ayuden a dar pie a nuevos proyectos de carácter artístico.

Y como no, echar una mano en cualquier cosa que me pidan.
Tengo ganas de ver lo que esta oportunidad me puede ofrecer y disfrutar de esta experiencia.
